Kenya Law Visits Kwetu Home of Peace as part of the Annual CSR initiative.

By Victor Baraka

As part of the Corporate Social Responsibility, National Council For Law Reporting (Kenya Law) welfare association led by the welfare chairman Mr. Nelson Tunoi visited Kwetu Home of Peace in Madaraka on Friday the 20th of April 2018; and donated food stuff, stationery, books, school bags, shoes, socks and other personal effects. Also in attendance was the Kenya Law CEO Mr Long’et Terer.

The team joined the children aged between 8-14 years who were graduating from the Madaraka home to the main center in Ruai. The home serves as a temporary stay for the boys before they are moved to the main center (Kwetu Home of Peace Ruai) where they continue with their education.

Some of the activities undertaken during the visit included a church mass, tour of the home, band performance and mentorship sessions. During the mentorship session, each member of staff was assigned a boy to interact with. This provided an opportunity for bonding and sharing experiences. The boys shared stories on how they ended up in the streets and later at the center which has transformed their lives.

Managed by the Catholic Archdiocese of Nairobi , Kwetu Children’s home was established in 1993 in response to increasing number of children on the streets of Nairobi. Its aim is to “ensure that street children are rehabilitated and developed to their full potential to become productive members of society”. It strives to achieve this vision by reaching out to street children in Nairobi to give them love, hope and dignity to maximally develop their potentials.

It started as a simple feeding station but has now grown to a children’s home with over 110 boys.

It is always very fulfilling to help the less privileged!
