Kenya Law at the 5th Annual Devolution Conference

Kenya Law showcased at the fifth Annual Devolution Conference held in Kakamega County from 23rd to 27th April 2017.
The Conference brought together over 6,000 delegates and 200 exhibitors from the county governments, government agencies and private sector.
The focus of the fifth Devolution Conference was to take stock of the accomplishments made in the implementation of devolved functions, share experiences on emerging issues, best practices establish pending work and make recommendations by both levels of government.
Themed “Sustainable, productive and efficient governments for results delivery” the conference was hosted by Kakamega County; officially opened by the president; H.E. Uhuru M. Kenyatta, CGH and closed by the Deputy president H.E William Ruto.
Kenya Law interacted with members of the public, explained their functions and mandate, show cased their products and services (in hard copy and the website) and distributed the core source of legal information, the Constitution of Kenya, 2010.
The stream of individuals who inquired about Kenya Law was endless. The positive feedback of attorneys from the county governments and seasoned users of the Kenya Law website was encouraging. “Wanjiku” was made to understand that Kenya Law website was not a forum for legal practitioners alone but a legal resource center for all, aimed at enlightening the society on the Law.
The Constitution of Kenya, 2010 and the Kenya Law Quarterly magazine The Bench Bulletin were among the give – aways by Kenya Law at the conference.
Further, Kenya Law used this opportunity to engage stakeholders from various counties with a view of establishing and enhancing strategic contacts with the newly elected County Governments and staff for the collection of county legislation. The main objective of the county Legislation collection is to provide the Kenyan public with a comprehensive county legislation database meant to support the devolved system of governance and enhance the rule of law.
